Bloody-Disgusting reports that Warner Bros. is rebooting the Mortal Kombat movie franchise from the once controversial video game which made its debut in 1995 and shocked soccer moms across the nation.

Thirteen years later since the horrific sequel, “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,” Warner Bros. is trying to make a buck with the almost twenty-year-old franchise. Writer Oren Uziel who wrote “Shimmer Lake” in 2009 which made the Black List, a list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, has been hired to handle the script.

One can only hope that Uziel takes the series back to its roots. That means no Outworld, and no “Heys let’s team up and fight the baddies.” What Mortal Kombat needs is a lot of awesome fighting scenes and a prayer that it doesn’t turn into something like “Tekken.”

If WB is smart, it’d be an hard “R” rated film, maybe something similar to “Ninja Assassin” and with actual fatalities.
