This really needs to stop. More and more often, networks are renewing series before they even premiere. There was a time when they waited to see how audiences liked them before sinking all of the extra resources into them. Sure, it’s a great marketing move – people are more likely to check out season one of a show if they know a season 2 is guaranteed, but come on… it’s getting old.

Anyways, while the His Dark Materials film ‘The Golden Compass’ bombed in the theaters, the BBC has decided that their TV adaptation of the series is going to be a hit, so they’ve just announced that season 2 is happening. Tom Hooper is overseeing the series and directing the first two episode of the star-studded adaptation. Check out the cast:

– Dafne Keen (Logan) – Lyra
– James McAvoy (Split/ X-Men) – Lord Asriel
– Ruth Wilson (the affair) – Marisa Coulter
– Clarke Peters (The Wire, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri) – the master of Jordan College and Lyra’s guardian
– Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana) – Lee Scoresby
– Ariyon Bakare (Rogue One) – Lord Boreal
– Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror) – Adele Starminster
– Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless) – Gyptian woman Ma Costa
– Will Keen (Dafne’s real dad/ Wolf Hall) – Father MacPhail

There are currently no images of the new show or any information on the premiere date for season 1.
