Doctor Who fans have been wondering for months now… who will be the next Doctor? Well, the wait is finally over and now we know that 26 year-old Matt Smith will be filling the shoes that David Tennant when he turns in his keys to the Tardis as the end of this season.

While Americans will probably have no idea who Smith is, Brits may recognize him from the BBC Political series “Party Animals.”

Here’s what “Doctor Who” executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat had to say about the new Doctor:

“As soon as Matt walked through the door, and blew us away with a bold and
brand new take on the Time Lord, we knew we had our man.
“2010 is a long time away, but rest assured the 11th Doctor is coming – and
the universe has never been so safe.”
