One of the biggest concerns coming out of this morning’s news about Disney buying most of FOX’s assets for 56 Billion Dollars was what it will mean for the recent spate of R-rated films based on Marvel characters. We’re talking about Logan, Deadpool, New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and probably X-Force. Many fans immediately feared the worst and that Disney would demand all future Marvel films be made family friendly. Thankfully, Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger has already come out to clear things up.

In a call with Wall Street Journal reporter, Ben Fritz, Iger mentioned Deadpool specifically, and said that he definitely wants to keep making sequels. He also said: “There may be an opportunity for an R-rated Marvel brand as long as we let audiences know what’s coming.”

For all the people who look at disney and just see things like Pixar, they forget that they love one thing more than family friendly fare… they love money. While I’d have to imagine that the lackluster X-Men franchise is probably up for some level of reboot, I’d be willing to bet that the reboot would be to make it fit into the existing, successful, Deadpool universe. As for films like Logan? That was pretty much FOX’s run at an Elseworlds style story for Marvel. Based on the success, it could actually mean that we might get more, interesting one off films based on marvel properties in the future.
