Chris Evans is reported to have been offered the role of Captain America.

Marvel has not confirmed the development and CAA, which reps the actor, declined to comment.

According to THR, Evans’ offer would include starring in up to three “America” movies plus “The Avengers” movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. While Evans has not officially accepted the offer, it’s noted that there may be complications due to his commitment to co-star in the Anna Faris romantic comedy “What’s Your Number?” Both are scheduled to begin shooting this summer.

While Evans was not in the initial round of actors being considered for the part, he already has a working relationship with Marvel having starred in two “Fantastic Four” films as Johnny Storm AKA The Human Torch.

There been concern over whether comic book fans can accept Evans who has already played a Marvel superhero a few years ago. Evans will also appear in two other upcoming comic book movies “The Losers” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”

“The First Avenger: Captain America” will be directed by Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) and will begin shooting this summer in England.
