Tim Miller, the director who shepherded Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool to box office success is heading back for another dip in the mutant pool. This time, instead of a merc with a mouth, he’ll be focusing on a
phase shifter with a pet dragon.

Pryde has been a long-standing part of the X-Men cinematic universe, as played by Ellen Page in several franchise outings, but you can bet that the film will be looking for a fresh start for the character. Miller is developing the script with plans to direct, but he’s also currently producing Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog film and he’s set to direct the new Terminator film that James Cameron is producing, so we’ll see what ends up actually happening. Add to this the fact that this film is being developed in the midst of the Fox/ Disney merger and things get even more murky. That said, the fact that it will be a female led hero film definitely gives it some insurance.

In the comics, Kitty Pryde/ Shadowcat has had one of the most interesting evolutions of any of the team members over the years. While she spent years as essentially the team’s kid sister, she developed and matured and is currently the leader of the X-Men. Over the year’s she’s gone to space, teamed up with Wolverine for countless adventures, and even endured a serious relationship with Colossus. It’s going to be very interesting to see what they do with her character in a stand alone film.
