We’ve come a long way since pong and in the ongoing quest to prove that video games are just as good as movies, EA and Fox recently announced that they are planning to adapt the popular video game Spore for the big screen.

Set to direct is Ice Age’s Chris Wedge in what is sure to be one of the weirdest or perhaps most brilliant video game adaption ever since… well, ya know, none. According to Variety, the film will be an “animated creature feature” which is obvious considering the game is of similar animated creature feature flair where the user plays “God” and controls the evolution of their single-cell organisms.

“Spore” won’t be the only film Wedge will be directing, some of his other projects include the live action “The Inventions of Hugo Cabret” and an animated adaption of “Leaf Men” based on the book “The Lead Men And The Brave Good Bugs” by William Joyce. We’ll have more on EA and Fox’s “Spore” as it develops.
