Fox just dropped the first teaser for Marvel’s New Mutants film and it looks like a film more suited to an October release than it’s scheduled date of April 13th. The decidedly dark trailer, set in something that seems like a cross between Xavier’s school for gifted children and Nurse Ratchet’s funhouse, will bring several mutant teens together for more jump scares than we’ve probably ever seen in a comic book movie, and that’s not a bad thing.

It’s too early to say if Josh Boone’s take on the mutant team is going to work, but you’ve got to give him credit for not just making the same, by the book, forgettable and almost always disappointing mutant film. He seems to be taking cues from the success of Deadpool and Logan that there is more success to be found breaking the mold.

There’s no synopsis for the film yet (we’ll probably have that sometime in the next 12 hours), but at least we’ve got the cast:

Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik
Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane
Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball
Alice Braga as Dr Cecilia Reyes
Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot
Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage
