I get really skeptical about remakes of classics. For that reason, I’ve kind of been ignoring Ben Stiller’s remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye film, The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. Well, the first trailer is out for the film and it is time for me to potentially eat my words.

If the movie features the same sort of drama, heart, and restraint that the trailer does (and that most Stiller films lack), we could be looking at a series contender when awards season comes around.

Joining Stiller in the film are Sean Penn, Adam Scott, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opens December 25th.

Official Synopsis:
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

As a bonus, here’s the trailer for the original 1947 film:
