I guess this is the next logical step after Pixels, but holy crap is this stupid.

Sadly, someone thought that Emojis would be a good basis for a movie. What is even more sad is that both Warner Bros and Paramount actually bid on the project before it landed over at Sony Animation.

The film is set to be scripted by Eric Siegel, who wrote Men at Workd and to be directed by Anthony Leondis of Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters.

So, why was this movie made? Well, The Lego movie did well and Pixels is on the way. That’s a big part of it. What’s even bigger? Everyone knows what an emoji is so there’s instant brand recognition. Also, they are public domain, so they don’t have to pay anyone a licensing fee.
