When I was watching James Gunn’s Slither and PG Porn, I would never have imagined that one day he might direct a major Super Hero blockbuster. But then again, I might have felt the same way about Whedon during season one of Buffy.
It was previously announced that screenwriter Chris McCoy would be doing the rewrite on the script that was originally penned by Nicole Perlman. Now it is being announced that James Gunn will most likely be filling the director’s chair.
This wouldn’t be Gunn’s first trip down the superhero path. He did direct the cult classic Super, starring rainn Wilson and Ellen Page.
At the moment, he hasn’t quite locked up the job. Other directors that are being considered are Peyton Reed (Yes Man, Bring It On) and the Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson, It’s Kind of a Funny Story).
Oddly, these all sound like relatively small picture directors. At least Whedon had directed Serenity before taking on the task of The Avengers.
