It looks like the long question of what James Gunn will do after Disney may have been answered. Most fans have been putting their money on Gunn heading over to the DCEU for The Flash, or possibly even Green Lantern. According to the folks over at The Wrap, it’s looking like everyone was half right.

According to reports, the director is now in talks to write and direct a new Suicide Squad movie. Moreover, the film will not be a sequel to the David Ayers film, but a reboot. We don’t know what this means for the existing cast of Suicide Squad, but you’d have to imagine that WB is trying to find a way to hold on to Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, given her upcoming Birds of Prey film. It’s very possible that she might exist in the universe, but may not be part of the new Suicide Squad team.

We are pretty torn about this. On the one hand, there isn’t a Comic Book movie from James Gunn that we wouldn’t be willing to give a shot. On the other hand, it feels a little unimaginative to give him another “band of misfits seeking redemption/ reluctant hero” story. It almost just sounds like he’s being hired to make Guardians of the Galaxy, but not in space.

Now, here’s the big question: Which roles do you think Gunn will be picking for David Bautiste and Michael Rooker?
