JK Simmons kicked ass as JJ Jameson when he was part of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man universe. Now he’s going to see what it’s like to play in DC’s playground because he’s just been cast as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Justice League film.

It’ll be interesting to see how Simmons plays what will be the most mature on screen relationship between Gordon and Batman as of yet. Affleck’s Batman is older and has been at this a lot longer than previous cinematic caped crusaders. That makes for a much more complex relationship between him and the commissioner.

There’s no word on how many films the contract is for, or if he’ll be playing the character in upcoming Batman films, but we do know that Justice League part one begins filming in April and is set for a November 17, 2017 release… where it will rule the box office for approximately one month before Star Wars Episode VIII comes out.
