Johnny Depp at long last will star in a feature film with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis who he has been romantically linked with for 12 or so years.

They will star in the film “My American Dream” otherwise known as “My American Lover,” which will be directed by Lasse Hallstrom (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Dear John) and will tell the tale of French feminist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir (Paradis) and her macho American lover Nelson Algren (Depp).

Currently no writer is attached for the screenplay, but it’s assumed that it will be based and adapted from “Beloved Chicago Man: Letters to Nelson Algren” or “A Transatlantic Love Affair: Letters to Nelson Algren,” which collects letters from Simone de Beauvoir’s to Algren from the 1940s to 1960s.

Letters that not only paint the portrait of her love for the American, Algren, but also her life, her friendships and the conscious undercurrent of French social history.
