Contrary to our reports and this weekend’s report from Variety that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would play ALberto Falcone, son of Gotham City mob boss Carmine Falcone in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” It seems as if it may no longer be the case…

Entertainment Weekly has just reported that a source close to the situation says that the recent reports are incorrect.

Here’s the official comment from EW:

A source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect. So, Batman fans: Begin the re-speculation now!

Talk about great confusion Batman! Personally, I love the idea of Gordon-Levitt playing Falcone, so I will continue to hope that the reports are true. But for now we have to go with the latest update, which is that he won’t be playing Falcone in “The Dark Knight Rises.” The reveal as a big premature, perhaps this is EW’s way of doing damage control so they can do their own big reveal later. I guess only time will tell… and no, I don’t want him to be Riddler.
