ABC has not only greenlit a live-action pilot of “The Avengers’ spinoff “S.H.I.E.L.D” AKA Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate, but “Avengers” director Joss Whenson is also reported to co-write and even possibly direct.

Whedon who recently signed on to helm “The Avengers 2,” will co-write the pilot with his brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen (“DollHouse,” Spartacus,” and “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”).

If Joss does direct, he would be right back in his wheelhouse as he made his career from the small screens with “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and and the cult favorite, “Firefly.”

Currently no details about the pilot has been released. Furthermore, it’s unknown whether the series will take place before or after The Avengers movie. As of now, the sky is pretty much the limit.

Personally, I’d like it to be a prequel to The Avengers. That way, Joss could bring back Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and have him lead the series.
