Based on the novel Kong: King of Skull Island, King King might return to the silver screens for a fourth installment and this time, it won’t be a remake but rather a prequel documenting the rise of Kong to pre-eminence of Skull Island.

The book, by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, was published around the same time as Peter Jackson’s take on Kong. It predominately tells the tale of King Kong fighting off threats and other creatures on Skull Island to become the king.

Spirit Pictures is making the story, originally developed by effects legend Ray Harryhausen, using Robert Zemeckis-style performance capture technology.

More to come as the story develops.
