We’ve all seen The Destroyer, we’ve even seen Thor’s trusty hammer. Now we finally get to see the man himself. Marvel has released the first official image of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the Norse God of Thunder!
The costume is definitely inspired by the new modern design by French artist Olivier Coipel, but still respectful to artist Jack Kirby’s original 1962 design. Most noticeably different is the change in armor color and the silver textured sleeves which really ought to be chain mail but just looks like padding on Hemsworth… He also has the cape, but no helmet. It makes us wonder if he’ll be more like Ultimate Thor. As a fan boy, I certainly hope not as the helmet is as much part of Thor as his Mjolnir.
So far Thor is looking great, even if questions are arising online regarding whether or not Hemsworth can fill the costume out enough.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, “Thor,” which also stars Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman, will open in theaters on May 6, 2011.
