Despite all my misgivings about the casting, I’ve got to admit that Daredevil really came through. The writing, the acting, the action… holy crap. It makes me happy to be able to say that the show will be back for a second season. Interestingly, however, the show will be coming back with new showrunners.

Steven DeKnight, the current showrunner will be stepping down to be replaced by Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy, Da Vinci’s Demons). Netflix wants people to know that the two have worked closely on season one with Petrie writing the Season 1 episodes “Stick”, “The Ones We Leave Behind”, and “The Path of Righteousness”, and Ramirez writing “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” and “Condemned”.

Here’s DeKnight’s statement:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with ‘Daredevil’ into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”

It will be interesting to see how this second season impacts the Netflix universe plan of shows for Daredevil, Luck Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, culminating in the Defenders mini-series.
