Black Panther isn’t the only big sci fi movie hitting the screens next month. We’ve also got Natalie Portman’s ‘Annihilation’ to look forward to. If you aren’t familiar with the story, it is about a strange shimmer that begins to appear and then expand, swallowing up the land around it. Portman’s character volunteers to go inside it to see what’s going on, only to find that the world is slightly different on the other side. Additionally, something has happened to everyone else that has already gone through it. Now she and her team have to solve the mystery and save the day before they get dead.

Today, a new featurette has been released about the “shimmer” and what it means to the characters in the film.

Lena, a biologist and former soldier, joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X – a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscape and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity.

From visionary writer and director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later) and based on the acclaimed best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation stars Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez and Tuva Novotny.

Annihiltion opens February 23rd and stars Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, and Tuva Novotny.
