If you’ve read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, than you know that the filmography of Steven Spielberg was incredibly influential to the story. That’s why it was both exciting to hear that Spielberg would be directing the film adaption of the book and troubling that he stated he’d be pulling many of the Spielbergian references in the film to prevent the story from becoming too self-referential.

Today we are getting a new featurette about the film that focuses on Spielberg and his love for the book. It’s also got a bunch of new footage to check out.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One hits theaters on March 30th and stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and T.J. Miller, with Simon Pegg and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance.
