Heat Vision reports that Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations to play Dr. Hector Hammond and will star opposite to Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell and WB’s much anticpiated “Green Lantern.”

Sarsgaard would play Dr. Hector Hammond, “the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father’s eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.”

If the leaked scripted we were tipped off to a year ago holds any truth, it appears as if “Green Lantern” will follow the dual villain plot line where Dr. Hammond will be the principal villain while Sinestro will be introduced and play a much larger role in the possible sequel. From the leaked script, Hammond was the central antagonist throughout while Sinestro working alongside Hal as a mentor.

Green Lantern is scheduled to begin shooting this March in New Orleans. Last week, we wrote about Blake Lively (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Gossip Girl) joining the cast, as Hal Jordan’s love interest, Carol Ferris.
