‘Punky Brewster’ To Return With Soleil Moon Frye In Her Original Role

I loved Punky Brewster as a kid almost as much as I hated that weird creature in the animated Punky Brewster series. If you are too young to remember it, it was the story of a little girl who was abandoned in the parking lot of a supermarket and then taken home by a random old dude named Henry. While it sounds like the tagline for an episode of Dateline Mysteries, it was actually an endearing series about two lonely people finding a family with each other. The show was such a big hit that it attracted guest stars as big as Andy Gibb and Nany Regan.

It’s been 30 years since the show ended its four-season run on NBC, but EW is reporting that a sequel series is now in development. In the revival, we’ll be joining Soleil Moon Frye’s Punky, now 42 and the single mother of three children. While working to get her life back on track, Punky will meet a young girl who reminds her of herself.

While we know Soleil Moon Frye is set to reprise her role, we are not sure about anyone else. It would make sense to bring back her best friend Cherry (played by veteran actress Cherie Johnson), but it seems like most of the other cast members have either left acting, or have passed away (George Gaynes and Susie Garret).

Either way, I just hope they revisit the haunted cave and do another episode on the dangers of hiding inside a refrigerator!
