There’s been some buzz lately about a new live-action “Goosebumps” movie possibly being in the work. Well, it looks like it’s coming to fruition. Columbia Pictures has hired Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia) to pen the screenplay for the yet untitled film based on the classic R.L. Stine book series. Neal Moritz will produce through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.

Columbia pictures is hoping to transform the series into a major family franchise. And I don’t see why not, with it having sold over 300 million copies worldwide, second only to Harry Potter series in total sales. It even use to its own Goosebumps TV series that wasn’t too shabby (although I always prefer Are You Afraid of the Dark more).

It’s been awhile since I’d seen a Goosebumps book so I’m not too sure how relevant they are to today’s kids, but if they take it more seriously and actually put some effort into it I don’t see how it could possibly fail. I’m game.
