The Underworld panel had appearances by Len Wiseman, Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, Theo James and the directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein.
According to Stein, they are halfway with filming but did bring along a few minutes of footage. The clip is full of quick cuts and we get to see Underworld in 3D for the first time. We see Selene breaking out of a glass chamber. Followed by action scenes involving Selene wielding a switchblade and slashing throats in 3D.
After the footage, Beckinsale talked about her skin-tight “giant condom” latex costume for Selene and the directors talked about how “Awakening” was never intended to be in 3D. It was a last minute change and they want to do it right by framing every shot with 3D in mind. From the preview, the results are not that impressive.
Lastly, Wiseman, mentioned how he’s interested in continuing the franchise and wants to turn it on its head by taking the characters and putting them in new environments. But he’ll never take them into space or give them glitter.
Overall, “Underworld: Awakening” look pretty entertaining. It may be one of my more beloved horror franchise and I’m glad Selene is back.
