Variety is reporting that rumors have begun to spread that the highly anticipated musical, “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” might be in jeopardy!!!

The extensive work being done to prep for the technically demanding show, both in the shop constructing the physical production and in the theater where “Spider-Man” is due to bow, is said to have stopped this week.

One explanation suggests the delay stems not from problems in raising the massive funds required for the tuner — said to be capitalized at north of $35 million — but from issues in mobilizing those great big chunks of coin.

reps and insiders say that this just a little bump in the road on the path to what might possibly be the next Cats… or at least the next Starlight Express.

Should the musical make its way to the stage, it will feature a score from U2’s Bono and the Edge, an star performances from Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane Watson and Alan Cumming as the Green Goblin.
