First, if you haven’t read Ready Player One, get off your ass and get to it. Admittedly, I didn’t read it… BUT. I did get the audio book ready by Wil Wheaton, and it was freaking awesome.
The story is set in a dystopian future where most human interaction takes place inside a MMORPG. When the creator of the game dies, an epic quest is set into action with the prize being ownership of the game. What follows is a pop culture fest that takes you down the rabbit hole of sci fi, 80’s movies, classic video games, hacking culture and more.
There’s been talk of making this movie for a long time. Not too long ago, Ridley Scott was circling it. Now, it’s been officially announced that Steven Spielberg, the man who has become synonymous with the 80’s (ET, Jaws, Indiana Jones) has been tapped to direct.
There’s no word on whether the film will just be one chapter or the rumored trilogy. All I know is that I’m excited.
