With all the great comic book movie action that is ahead of us, the project that still had me most excited was the movie adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s Runaways, the story of a group of kids who runaway together after finding out their parents are a league of supervillains.

Now, THR is reporting that the movie has been shelved because of The Avengers. Iron Man 3 writer, Drew Pearce told THR that The Avengers stopped Runaways “Deadn In Their Tracks.”

“We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers. Oddly, it pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s there — maybe it’ll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I’m really proud of it and I think it’ll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, his master plan is.”

This is one of the most disappointing bits of comic book movie news since the the five minute rumor that Justin Bieber was going to play Robin.
