News broke late last night that Timur Bekmambetov just won an auction for a spec script for a new and innovative zombie movie called ‘Maggie’. The goal is to make the film for around 4-8 Million dollars, in the same vein as recent hits like ‘Paranormal Activity’.

Bekmambetov is currently working on ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ and he also has the Apollo 18 movie, ‘Found Footage’ coming out next January.

Maggie is a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. Much the way that Danny Boyle changed the lumbering zombie stereotype by speeding up the undead in 28 Days Later, Maggie changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six months for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family.

It sounds almost like they took a zombie movie and crossed it with ‘The Fly.’
