It’s been reported that “Tron Legacy” will feature five full scenes in IMAX 3D similar to “The Dark Knight” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” What this means is that the film will change aspect ratios from 2.35:1 to 1.7:1 and it will be the first 3D film to do so.

While we don’t know what scenes will be given the IMAX treatment, we’re willing to bet it’ll be at least one of the amazing light cycle sequences.

Although 3D is the future, “Tron Legacy” is slowly paving the way to both 3D and IMAX. Something that will most likely be a staple in the future to come. Currently filming in full IMAX has proven too costly, which is one of the reasons why many films only feature IMAX scenes and the reason you see black borders. So even though many films are shown on IMAX, they’re not a representation of the true IMAX experience. Film such as the soon to be released “Alice in Wonderland,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Toy Story 3,” “Inception,” and “Iron Man 2.”
