THR just got the scoop from SyFy on their two biggest, post Battlestar Galactica series, “Stargate Universe” and “Sanctuary.” It looks like both series will be getting a full renewal for next season. Woohoo!

Syfy is expanding its commitments to “Stargate: Universe” and “Sanctuary,” granting both series another season. The two Friday night shows have been getting positive ratings with Universe averaging 2.6 million viewers and Sanctuary 2.2 million.

According to executive producer Robert Cooper, “We’re dealing with 15 seasons of expectations with a certain fanbase.”

“Hopefully, as the show goes on, people will appreciate ‘Universe’ for being its own thing.”

“Universe” recently aired its freshman mid season finale. The show’s hiatus will extend until April, and Season 2 will debut in the fall along with a third season of “Sanctuary. The Friday night shows have commenced production on their next seasons in Vancouver and have received 20-episode orders.”

This is great news. Both of these series are actually quite good and Universe is some of the best Sci Fi TV that has been out there in quite some time. If you haven’t been watching, there is still time to get caught up the second half of the season kicks off in March 2010.
