Variety is reporting that the live-action remake of “Akira” is still alive and kicking… just temporarily halted.

Insiders at Warner Bros. are saying that production for “Akira” has been stopped due to issues with the script, and the studio plans on hiring a new writer to fix “character elements” and the look of the movie.

“Harry Potter” screenwriter Steve Kloves has already taken a shot at “Akira,” and the studio is said to be considering “The Dark Knight’s” Jonah Nolan or “Green Lantern’s” Michael Green as the next writer.

Because of the rewrite, the studio has also decided to delay their casting of Tetsuo, the antagonist of the film. It’s rumored that the short list includes actors Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire).
