If you were one of the millions of fans that was hoping Zack Snyder wouldn’t be darkening yet another Superman movie, this could be good news for you. It is now being reported that X-Men First Class/ Kingsmen director, Matt Vaughn is being looked at as the new director for the sequel in the critically struggling (but financially solvent) DC Cinematic Universe.

While most people consider Batman v Superman to be the sequel to Man of Steel, Warner Bros does not, and they are looking at making a real sequel that will help move the franchise forward. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that he’s circled the project. Back in 2010, he and Mark Millar made a pitch to Warner Bros that was eventually turned down in favor of Snyder and David Goyer’s darker film. While Vaughn never confirmed that those earlier meetings ever happened, he did tell reporters at the time what he would do if he was making a Superman movie:

“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”
