Epic Halloween Cape Made From Over 300 pieces of Candy

You don’t need to go trick or treating when you entire Halloween costume is made from candy. When it came time to pick a Halloween costume this year, I just wasn’t in the mood to go with my usual standby of Sexy Elmo, and I thought it was just a little “too soon” to slip into my sexy ebola containment costume. I decided to try something new. With a $7 cape from Amazon, 10 lbs of trick or treat candy, and more fabric tape then I ever want to see again, I set to creating a new, edible costume. To be honest, the idea came from the fact that I tend to be a little bit of a wallflower at parties, especially when I don’t know anyone there. Can you think of a better ice breaker than letting fellow party goers eat you?

While time consuming (it took around 4 hours to put together), the costume is definitely doable even for those of you who aren’t crafty. Heck, I can’t even draw a straight line. Just buy all the candy you can find and then lay out any design you want. I went with a Jack o’ Lantern because… well, because there’s no way I would have been able to make any other shape recognizable. To attach the candy, I used U Glu fabric adhesive squares. They are ridiculously strong. In fact, my first test of the cape involved me doing jumping jacks to see what would shake loose. By the end of the party, only one Kit Kat had fallen off on its own accord. As an added bonus, you get a nice little work out carrying around over ten pounds of candy.

Once you’ve got it done, all that’s left is to name your new sugar-based hero. I started the party with the name “Captain Trick Or Treat,” but over the course of the night I was renamed everything from: Candy Man, to Captain Diabeedus, To “that guy who keeps giving the kids free candy and probably has a windowless van full of puppies.”

Here’s what you need to make the cape:
1 generic superhero cape
1 old pair of suspenders
8 medium sized safety pins
U Glue adhesive Dashes
Duct Tape – Splurge on the Halloween designs… it’s more festive
Enough Halloween candy to give an entire Kindergarten class diabetes.

3 Sizes of Tootsie Rolls
Fruit flavored Tootsie Rolls
Snack Size Snickers
Bite Size Sickers
Bite Size Milky Way
Bite Size Milky Way Midnight
Darkside Skittles
Sour Skittles

Tips
– Make sure that you have a pair of suspenders or something else to attach to the cape. With 10 lbs of candy, the velcro will never hold on it’s own, and you will choke yourself to death trying to make it happen.

– Use the safety pins to attach the cape to the suspenders and then wrap the connection in duct tape to reinforce it. Remember, people will be tugging on your cape all night, you need to make sure it is secure.
