If Sideshow’s $970 Infinity Gauntlet unveil didn’t make you bat an eye, we’ve got something a little more extravagant for you. One of Disney’s big reveals today was the launch of their own Marvel Masterworks Prop Replica line. These hyper-limited items (some limited to as few as 50 pieces) include Captain America’s Shield from Civil War, Iron Man’s Mark I helmet, Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto, Black Panther’s Ring, and Baby Groot!

The collectibles are undoubtedly works of art, but they will only come home with you at gallery prices. The least expensive item in the assortment is Black Panther’s Ring, which will set you back a paltry $1,450. Bringing home Cap’s shield however… Well, that’s going to cost you $4,100. To answer your question, no. It is not made of Vibranium. Check out the images and full product descriptions below and then head over to the Disney Store and prepare to apply for a second mortgage.

During the epic civil war battle between fellow Marvel heroes, Black Panther and Captain America clash in combat resulting in Black Panther’s claws leaving their mark upon Captain America’s vibranium shield. Known for its durability and impenetrable nature, nothing had been able to damage the shield during Captain America’s prior battles. This key moment in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War helped to define the incredible power of the Black Panther.

Each shield is hand made from spun aluminum and consists of over fifty individual pieces. To limit the weight of the shield, Russell Bobbitt and the team invented a way to create the outer shell in aluminum and fill the interior with an engineered foam product over armatures to hold all the parts together. The shield’s handles are hand crafted out of leather sourced to emulate materials that could have been found in the early 1940s (the time period in which Captain America’s shield was created by Howard Stark). During filming of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther claw marks were created using computer generated imagery (CGI). For this piece, the Black Panther claw marks are being etched by hand and put through a scenic aging process, making each shield unique.

In Iron Man, Tony Stark was tasked with building his original power suit. The first scene in which we see the beginnings of construction shows Tony pounding steel, highlighting the workmanship and skill needed to create the Mark I. The realization of the Mark I is a defining moment of inspiration for Tony as he becomes the hero underneath the suit, Iron Man.

The design for the film’s Iron Man Mark I helmet prop was inspired by the story idea of Tony only having the ability to use salvaged parts from Stark missiles. However, the team recognized that if it was made using solid steel, it would weigh approximately 40 pounds and couldn’t be worn on set for long periods of time. To accommodate the rigorous filming schedule, the helmet was made of resin and lined using real leather. It also featured a comfortable headpiece to allow the actor to have more control over head movements. The team developed the perfect mix of paint finishes and textures to make the helmet still appear metallic.

Groot Puppet - Marvel Masterworks Collection Authentic Film Prop Duplicate - Limited Edition
$2,550.00

Safety

This is not a toy, and does not contain any moving parts.

Magic in the details

Please note: Purchase of this item is limited to 1 per Guest.

This diminutive version of Groot was introduced to audiences in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and became a breakout character. His unique personality and wit are what makes him a fan favorite and ”I am Groot” is now an iconic phrase within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Even though Groot as seen in the film was created using computer generated imagery (CGI), the design team created a physical puppet of Groot for use on set during filming with the live cast. Puppeteered by Russell Bobbitt himself, the prop puppet was crucial to the film making process so the actors could have a focal point to look at and react to. The Groot puppet was hand sculpted then molded and cast into a soft rubber material. For this piece, the moss, roots, and leaf details have all been hand placed and colored. All elements have been manufactured to limit deterioration over time.*

Black Panther T’Chaka’s Ring - Marvel Masterworks Collection Authentic Film Prop Duplicate - Limited Edition
$1,450.00

This exclusive, limited edition T’Chaka’s ring is the ultimate piece for any collector of Wakanda and Black Panther artifacts. An authentic duplicate of the film prop, it is made by Russell Bobbitt, Head of Props for Marvel Studios, and his team.
Safety

Magic in the details

Please note: Purchase of this item is limited to 1 per Guest.

The ring is first seen in Captain America: Civil War and worn by T’Chaka, king of Wakanda and father of T’Challa. Passed down to T’Challa upon his father’s death, he now proudly wears it on his right ring finger - except when costumed as Black Panther.

The design of the ring is inspired by Black Panther’s mask. The eye in the center of the ring emulates the Black Panther’s eyes. After the design process, there was a rigorous testing of the right finish to properly bring vibranium to life. T’Chaka’s ring is made from sterling silver, hand finished, and plated with white and black rhodium.
