For the last couple of years, we’ve been talking about the exciting things that Elon Musk’s Solar City and Tesla Companies are doing with solar power and solar roofing tiles in particular. While Musk’s company might be eating up all the attention from the press, there are other companies out there who seem to potentially have him beat. 3 in 1 Roof is a company that has designed a new tile that provides insulation, wind protection, and solar power. They are also the first solar tile company to promise zero heat transference to the attic. Traditional solar roofing tiles can heat up the attic and increase the number of resources needed to manage the internal temperature of the house.

That alone would be enough to get some attention, but it actually gets even better. The new tiles are lighter than the Tesla roofing tiles, so they put less load on the roof. They also cost $11 less than Tesla tiles per square foot. They are designed to eliminate condensation between the attic deck and insulation, preventing mold and rot and they can withstand winds up to 200 mph. Oh, and they are also available in several more styles than the Tesla tiles.

Whether you like the 3 in 1 Roof tiles or the Tesla tiles, the good news is that there are multiple companies working on this technology. That means quality and innovation is going to increase and the price is going to come down.

One place where Elon Musk seems to definitely have 3 in 1 beat is their marketing…
