YBMW would like to remind everyone that tomorrow (September, 19 2009) is the official international event, Talk Like a Pirate day 2009 (TLAP).

Made popular by former humor columnist Dave Barry, Talk Like a Pirate Day 2009 has absolutely no point according to the founders. The whole point is to just have fun and well… speak like a pirate. Which includes random “Arrr-ing” and a few “Avast” here and a couple of “Savvy” there with some of your best “mateys.”

This parodic holiday was first created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon. It’s recommended that on every September 19, you would greet friends not with “Hello,” but with “Ahoy, me hearty!”

The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy. The holiday is a major observance in the parody religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
