Everyone needs a hobby. For 109-year old Alfred Date, that hobby is knitting sweaters for penguins in need. This might sound like a crazy thing to do, but it actually serves to help save the lives of many birds. You see, when there’s an oil spill, tons of penguins get doused in nasty chemicals. This leaves many of them injured and less able to care for themselves. The sweaters help the penguins stay warm and keep them from swallowing the toxins on their feathers while preening.

Also, just in case you were wondering Date’s charitable knitting goes beyond penguins. he also knits beanies for premature human babies.
