Some women are in a rush to get married as a soon as they can. Wang Guiying of China is not one of those women. She’s 107 and just now looking for her first husband.
Why wait so long? Well it’s a heck of a story. Wang grew up watching all the women in her family being oppressed, abused, and neglected by their husbands. She also had to witness many of them subjected to the horrible act of foot binding. Having not been married off before her Parents passed away, Wang took to the hills where she lived the life of a farmer.
She lived a happy life there with family until she was 102 and broke her leg. Since then she’s been worried that she is now a burden to her family as she can no longer help with chores luike washing the laundry.
“I’m already 107 and I still haven’t got married,” the Chongqing Commercial Times quoted her saying. “What will happen if I don’t hurry up and find a husband? My nephews and nieces are getting older and their children are already tied up with their own families and I am becoming more and more of a burden,” she said.
She’d really like to find a man around her own age and local officials are doing what they can to help by having her get in touch with retirement homes to find candidates.
