You know that chocolaty spread that you dream about? The one that falls second only to bacon on the list of foods you’d like to be buried with? Well, if you eat it, you might be killing us all.

At least that’s what Segolene Royal, the French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy is saying. According to his new report, Nutella… as well as every other food made with palm oil, is doing more damage to the environment than the entire budget menu of Taco Bell will do to your bathroom.

As it turns out, Farmers are cutting down a swath of land the size of 300 football fields every hour to replace those trees with African Oil Palm Trees (which I guess aren’t as good at making oxygen… who knew?).

It’s true, palm oil is used in everything from pizza dough to lipstick, so calling out Nutella is kind of a dick move, but hey it got our attention.

In response, Ferrero, the company that makes Nutella says that they get their palm oil from sustainable supplies.
