Over a decade ago, The Simpsons taught us that what happens when you introduce an invasive species to Australia. It’s a problem that the continent continues to deal with ever since rabbits were brought to its shores, and it’s a topic on which they are more than a little bit touchy.

That’s how Johnny Depp and Amber Heard found themselves in the position they are currently in. It seems that Heard had snuck her dogs into the country on a film shoot. When the government found out, they decided to do a little more than just slap some wrists. Instead there were threats of fines and even jail time. However, luckily for the celebrity couple, they were able to get away with nothing more than the world’s most awkward apology.

For those of you who want to know why bringing invasive critters into Australia is bad, check out this little clip from the Simpsons.
