Growing up in New England, I didn’t know a lot of people named after alcohol. That said, I still remember roll call in my first day of class for Public Relations 101 my freshman year of college in Florida. There were actually four people in my class named Jack Daniels. Well, it turns out that Gentleman Jack isn’t the only alcohol being used as a namesake.

Jack Daniels Leathers and his wife Lydia Leathers named their newborn son Jim Beam. They told a local paper that they wanted to continue the tradition that was started by Jack’s parents.

“My parents decided they wanted to name their son something to make their parents mad,” Jack said. “And, at the time, my dad was drinking Jack, which he enjoyed. My mom said, ‘Why not?’”

As far as names for future children:

“If we have another child, our second born will be Evan Williams, after the bourbon. If it’s a girl, she will be Sherry, like the cooking sherry.”
