Anonymous sources inside the Pentagon are telling reporters that the Department of Defense has actively banned the playing of Pokemon Go in Defense facilities and properties. The reason given for the ban is a concern that hackers could use the popular app to spy on the US government for foreign countries.
On July 19, an official memo was actually sent out, warning officials and government contractors that Pokemon Go, poses a potential a security risk to secure and sensitive facilities.
Some of the ways government officials outlined this could happen include tracking of government employees via the GPS enabled function of the app, allowing black hats to track contractors with high clearances and pinpoint highly classified locations as well as general concerns about hackers getting the large amount of personal information that Pokemon Go harvests from its users.
Personally, I think there’s a Pokegym somewhere on property and some general doesn’t want anyone challenging his supremacy.
