Ed Mironiuk – ‘Felt Cute’ Art Show @ Gallery 1988 Turns Pop Culture Icons Into Adorable Creations

Artist Ed Mironiuk has just launched his latest show over at Gallery 1988. In the new exhibition, called “Felt Cute,” Ed takes some of the most iconic characters in the history of pop culture and gives them an adorable, needlefelt makeover.

The new show features art inspired by Ghostbusters, A Clockwork Orange, Star Wars, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, Spaceballs, Gilligan’s Island, The Incredible Hulk, Child’s Play, Star Trek, Spirited Away, Mr. T, and Donnie Darko.

Most of the pieces are already sold out, but you can still try to pick up an original HERE.

About Ed Mironiuk (From EdMironiuk.com):

Ed Mironiuk was born in 1969 in Buffalo, NY. Beingan only child his imagination ran wild. He began drawing at a young age and was inspired by comic books and cheesy drive-in movies. At 11 he discovered Frazetta and Alberto Vargas which solidified his love for pinups.

After high school he moved to NYC and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Parson’s School of Design. While pursuing illustration jobs for such magazines as Tattoo and Easyriders he worked as an animator. It was during this time that he met Kristin Tercek aka Cuddly Rigor Mortis. They quickly married and started Cha-Pow!, an animation ink and paint company that is still thriving and well known for its work on MTV, Nickelodeon, and Saturday Night Live.

He also continued to produce art and was profiled in everything from the Los Angeles Times to The Globe. His pinup work was also growing and was featured in the Schiffer book The Contemporary Illustrated Pin-Up and two volumes of his art, Bizarre Beauty and the Art of Ed Mironiuk from SQP Publishing.

Feeling that his illustration has run it’s course he recently changed his preferred medium of creation from digital to needlefelting. After so many years working on a computer it was good to be able to create something 3d in real life. His felted sculptures are tongue and cheek little creations that he hopes will make the world a happier place.
