With Father’s Day having just passed, we thought that a promising film about a dysfunctional family would be fun to show off. Seriously, the new Netflix film ‘Like Father,’ has the potential to be a great comedy with a cast that includes Kelsey Grammer, Kristen Bell, and Seth Rogen. In fact, if there was one thing that would make us the slightest bit skeptical about the film, it would be that Laren Miller Rogen (Seth’s wife), is the writer, director, and producer of the film. This isn’t the kind of thing that would normally phase us, but the pairing of Melissa McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, has burned us one too many times. Come on, he’s the man responsible for Tammy, Life of the Party, and The Boss!!!
Leaving nepotism fears behind, the first trailer for Like Dad is charming. Bell and Grammer seem to have a solid chemistry on screen and it’s just great to see him in a movie where he isn’t scheming against the Autobots.
When a workaholic young executive (Kristen Bell), is left at the altar, she ends up on her Caribbean honeymoon cruise with the last person she ever expected: her estranged and equally workaholic father (Kelsey Grammer). The two depart as strangers, but over the course of a few adventures, a couple of umbrella-clad cocktails and a whole lot of soul-searching, they return with a renewed appreciation for family and life.
