Renowned composer Hans Zimmer, recent confirmed that he’s set to write the music of Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Superman.” Zimmer who wrote the soundtrack for Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” and “Inception” will now be responsible for all the music in the new “Superman” reboot. While this is excellent news, it comes at a cost however. The new film will now not include any of the iconic Superman themes composed by John Williams that had been featured in previous Superman movies.
The news of Zimmer’s involvement with Superman and the omission of John Williams came courtesy of NBC San Diego, who covered a DVD release party for Inception.
“It’s a hard one,” mused Zimmer, “but I followed one of the most iconic [Danny Elfman scores] on ‘Batman [Begins]’ with Chris [Nolan] as well, and it’s the same thing. You are allowed to reinvent, but you have to try to be as good or at least as iconic and it has to resonate and it has to become a part of the zeitgeist. That’s the job. On ‘Gladiator’ I remember people always talking about ‘Spartacus’ and I kept telling them, ‘When you saw “Spartacus” and how it affected it you, that’s how I want a modern audience to be affected by what we do now.’ So I think ultimately you’re supposed to reinvent.”
