Hasbro Adapting Board Game ‘Guess Who?’ Into New TV Series

Deadline is reporting that Hasbro’s latest effort to monetize a classic license will be an unscripted TV series based on the video game Guess Who?

The new game show will ask people to make snap judgments based on intuition and clues as they try to win cash prizes. In the original game, players would use 20 Questions style inquiries about physical details as they tried to narrow down a list of possible people and guess the one who was chosen as ‘it’ by their opponent.

Since its launch in 1979, Guess Who? has become a major seller for Hasbro with players purchasing more than 2 million units across 28 countries. Sharon Levy, President, Unscripted & Scripted Television, Endemol Shine North America, had this to say about the new show:

Guess Who? is a game that I loved playing when I was growing up and that I’m now playing at home with my friends and family. We’ve re-imagined the show with our partners at Hasbro to create a game with knock-out visuals, huge surprises and hilarious reveals that’s just as fun to watch, as it is to play.”

To us, it sounds like they have created a game that is just close enough to the original that they can justify using the name of an existing brand to exploit nostalgia.
