Monsters Inc. and Monsters University were both massive hits for Disney and Pixar. So massive, that you knew it wouldn’t be the end of the franchise. In fact, a spinoff series, Monsters At Work, was first announced almost two years ago and then not mentioned again since. The other day, Billy Crystal mentioned the project on Chris Hardwick’s ID10T podcast, saying that it would be premiering soon and would take place immediately after the events of the first film. We’d be seeing what happens when Mike and Sully take over as managers of the newly renamed “Laugh Floor.”
Today, Disney+ released a new image from the show as well as an announcement that we should be able to see the first episode when it drops on the streaming network, July 2nd.
“Monsters At Work takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.”
