Known more for fun popcorn based action films like Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Deep Blue Sea. His new film 5 days of War is about reporters trying to cover the war between Russia and Georgia that erupted in 2008. This is pretty heavy stuff for a guy whose last film starred John Cena (12 Rounds). The trailer looks more like a basic explotation of the war for action film purposes than a hard hitting drama. Yes there are very dramatic moments in the trailer but my gut reaction is that this is just a cheap way if Harlin telling people he’s trying to make important movies. The film will get a limited release in the states on August 19th and who knows maybe I’ll eat my words and write my magnum opus review about Renny Harlin’s 5 Days of War but, I kind of doubt that.
