For anyone out there who was hoping that Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel that was reportedly set to get made after the 2nd or 3rd (depending on who you ask) Prometheus film, you can stop holding your breath. According to Ridley Scott, it looks like it is not going to happen, and never really had a chance in the first place. Here’s what he had to say on the matter in an interview with the French website Allocine.
“I think it will never see the light. There was never a scenario, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of 10 pages, I had to participate as a producer but it did not go any further because Fox decided that they did not want to do it. I had already done Prometheus and worked on Covenant.”
As recently as last fall, stars of the proposed film, including Sigourney Weaver said they loved the script and were just waiting for the right time to make it happen. Who knows, maybe this was just Scott trying to kill a project that got in the way of his own plans. If Alien: Covenant and it’s eventual sequel do well in the theaters, I can’t imagine FOX turning away a supposedly great script to continue the franchise. We all know that not having a great script hasn’t stopped them in the past.
